The Sons and Daughters Award

The Fostering Network Charity has presented an award to a boy from Houghton Regis as part of the Fostering Excellence Awards. Stephan Clarke, 12, was recognised for his role within a fostering family. Stephan spoke about how great it was to receive the Sons and Daughters award for his work in helping other children.

The award was presented to Stephan by the director of Children’s Services at Central Bedfordshire Council, Sue Harrison.

Private Fostering

A free information session is being held by Thurrock Council next week to help raise awareness about ‘Private Fostering’ (when a child under the age of 16 or 18 if disabled, is cared for by someone who is not their parent or close relative).

The session, which is open to anyone involved in private fostering, will help to ensure the safety of these children. According to Carmel Littleton, Director of Children’s Services, the majority of children in private foster care are well cared for but there may be some who are at risk.

The session is being held on Tuesday 11th November.

National Adoption Week

A recruitment campaign which coincides with National Adoption Week (3-9 November), is being launched in Jersey . The island needs to recruit more foster carers who can provide long term foster care for teenagers and young people with additional needs.

A teenager from the island wants to encourage people to become foster carers. Jessica Frietas, 16, has lived with her foster mother for 4 years and says how coming forward to help others like her will make a big difference.

Give A Book Charity

The Charity ‘Give a Book’ www.giveabook.org.uk  has teamed up with an independent foster care agency in Gloucestershire, to provide books to children in foster care.

Each child placed in foster care with Community Foster Care will receive a book.  Registered manager, Chris Cawkell, explained that the children all named their favourite subject.

He said: “It was fantastic when the books arrived – the children are chuffed to bits”.
