With further training, this allowance could rise to £550.00 a week. Foster care is now seen as a vocational profession. Through foster care, you can have a rewarding career whilst also making a positive difference in your community.

The rewards of fostering in Berkshire.

Becoming a foster carer is extremely rewarding. By providing a troubled child with a stable and safe environment you can transform their lives. Many of these children will not have experienced a normal family life before. Through becoming their surrogate family, you support and nurture them through this difficult time. Being able to offer love and safety to neglected young people is one of the most positive aspects of foster care. Potentially, you could form relationships and friendships which you maintain throughout your life.

Fostering also offers opportunities to develop your skills through training and education. Not only do these skills increase your earning potential but they also can be transferred to your own life. For example, becoming a better foster carer will lead to improved parenting of your own children.

Of course, being a foster carer can at times be challenging. These challenges develop you as a person. The satisfaction that comes from overcoming these challenges and the pride in helping a child in need is the ultimate reward for foster carers.

Popular Placement Types: Berkshire is an ethnically diverse area. Berkshire has a prominent South Asian community. Potentially, this can lead to issues in the foster care industry. Where possible a foster child is always placed with a family who share the same cultural heritage. This makes the process of relocation as stress-free as possible. Therefore, Berkshire is under pressure to recruit foster carers from diverse backgrounds to provide an optimum service.

Berkshire is one of the home counties of England. Berkshire is derived from the Celtic word Bearroc meaning hilly. It has a prominent historical heritage with Alfred the Great having fought many battles across Berkshire in his campaign against the Danes. In 1867 Reading became the county town of Berkshire, replacing Abingdon. The Queen recognised Berkshire as a Royal County in 1957 because of its association with Windsor Castle.

Berkshire is often perceived as a prosperous county. The majority of Britain’s prime ministers have been educated in the private boarding school Eton, near Windsor. Royal Ascot was founded by Queen Anne in 1711 and is now world-renowned for horse racing. Berkshire is also notable for its picturesque rural villages and countryside.

Berkshire has been home to many iconic British figures. Jane Austen attended The Abbey School in Reading and is now immortalised in the school’s crest. Ranulph Fiennes, the first person to visit both the North and South poles, was born in Windsor. The comedian Ricky Gervais was born in Reading.
