While my friend Susie and her daughter Abi from America have been staying we have had Lauren in our room on a pull-out bed. We have observed interesting sleeping habits of hers whilst she has been our room mate! Firstly, she is a restless sleeper, she is moving around, talking and snoring throughout the night. She sleeps with her legs at all angles. Last night she got up in the middle of the night. I asked her if she was alright. She didn’t answer. She then walked across the room to the other side. I assumed she was going to the toilet, but she stopped before she got to the door and then stood with her back against the wall. I asked her what she was doing. “I’m standing with my back against the wall’. I soon realise that she was in fact sleep walking. It was strange because she seemed like she was awake, she was talking to us, but wasn’t making too much sense. In the morning she had no recollection of what had happened.
After a few minutes of filling her in, we had a good giggle and moved on. We didn’t make too much of it as we know she can embarrass easily. So on with the day.
The next thing that happened was a shock. We found a flea on one of the kittens. On closer inspection we found four fleas between them. I don’t know what it is but the thought of the cats having fleas made us all feel very itchy. We are not under any illusion about animals getting fleas – particularly cats, but the strange thing is our kittens have not yet been outside. So now we turn our attention to think where on earth they have got fleas from. After a few minutes on google it seems that fleas can lie dormant in your house for months. So that means the fleas could have been in the house since the last occupant lived here.
Either that or one of us has brought in the fleas from somewhere else…. Either way this is not a nice thought. We immediately order flea treatment for the kittens and for the house. From our google search we realise that not only do the cats need to be de-flea’d so does the house!!
Like so many other things in life, this wasn’t part of our thinking when we signed up to getting kittens, but I guess this is part of the deal!
