Fostering in Newham

FOSTERING IN NEWHAM.

The Borough of Newham needs new carers!

Do you live in the Newham area? If you are 21 or over, have a spare bedroom, and are a permanent resident of the UK, then you are most likely eligible to foster a child. SimplyFostering is here to help you through the process of becoming a carer.

If you want to give something back to the community and think you can provide a disadvantaged child with the safe environment they require, then you might be able to take the first steps to foster in Newham today.

Unfortunately, not all children are given the same opportunities from birth. In fact, there are thousands of young people in the UK care system who have come from backgrounds of neglect, abuse, and other forms of mistreatment. Having to deal with conditions such as these is something no one should have to go through, and right now Newham is an area in particular that needs carers to look after these children.

Why foster a child?

Making the decision to foster can and will benefit the child in a variety of ways. However, many people overlook the advantages to the carer that the process also brings about.

One of the more commonly noted advantages might be regarding the pay for fostering in Newham. The monetary compensation one receives for fostering a child should not be a priority when starting the journey to becoming a carer, however, it is an important factor to consider and will be a very useful thing to have when providing day-to-day care.

Pay rates aren’t regulated by the government, so each local authority or private agency will decide on the allowances for fostering in Newham they provide. Along with an allowance to subsidise general care for the child, agencies also pay foster carers professional fees which is an income payment to the carer.

The allowance and fee average will be a weekly minimum of £400, but the type of care you provide, the age of the children, and the agency you choose to go with, will also impact the figure.

Another advantage that comes with fostering in Newham is the skills you will acquire throughout the process. Both through training you will be given and real-life experience with the child, you will gain a multitude of skills aimed towards communication and care, which will be largely transferable to other areas of your life. For example, what you learn will inevitably lead to more informed parenting of your current children, too.

As well as this, you will be given the opportunity to build a relationship with a child who needs it most. Providing support to someone who needs it dearly is a very fulfilling role to take on, and the bond that carers form with their foster children is often highly valued by both parties.
