Bournemouth has seven miles of beaches with four European Blue Flags and in the early 19th century the area was heathland and in 1810 a man named Tregonwell is regarded as the first inhabitant of the area but there was no settlement at Bournemouth until 1837.

During the Second World War, 219 people were killed by German bombing, the Bournemouth Echo started in 1900, and in 1972 Bournemouth changed from being part of Hampshire, to Dorset.
