We want to help you learn more about what foster care is, what the best fostering agency in Watford (and elsewhere in the UK) is for your needs, the pay for fostering in Watford, and much more.

Watford is part of the UK experiencing a shortage of foster carers available to take in local children from the care system. As a result we are reaching out to the community, trying to raise awareness of the issue and urging people to consider fostering in Watford if they have not done before. The benefits the process can have for parents and children alike are endless, and the fulfilment gained from taking a child in is truly unique.

Am I eligible to become a carer?

Before applying with us, there are a few basic criteria that must be met (more information on which can be found elsewhere on our website). As well as these more general considerations, different fostering agencies in Watford may have slightly different eligibility requirements. However, If you tick these boxes then you will most likely be able to move onto the next step of the process.

First, you must be at least 21 years of age to apply. As well as this, you must have a spare bedroom large enough for the child in question to live in, to ensure they have sufficient privacy and comfort at home. You also usually need to be a full-time resident in the UK.

You must be able to commit the time needed to care for a child often on a full-time basis, however, this does not rule out working part-time parallel to your role as a carer. Considerations will also be made regarding your financial security, health, and the suitability of your home in general.

Certain factors such as criminal convictions do come into play, but do not rule out your eligibility; the outcome will depend on the details of the specific case. As well as these considerations, your past experience in caring for children is important, whether through experience in the workplace or in the family.

If you think your circumstances tick these boxes, great! The next step to take towards fostering in Watford is filling out an enquiry form on our website. More information on eligibility, and advice tailored to your needs specifically is always available from us, and can be accessed by getting in touch using the contact details available on the website.

Watford: A bit about the community!
The borough of Watford is a fantastic part of the UK, with a rich and vibrant community. The population stands just short of 100’000 as of 2017 (Watford Borough Council Monitoring Report), and the children in need of a new foster parent help make up that number.

The area has an interesting history dating back many years, but is currently undergoing huge investment to further increase the number of jobs, houses and opportunities available. In fact, Watford Borough Council has committed to providing over £1.5bn worth of investment into the current ongoing redevelopment project, aimed at creating new homes, jobs, facilities and services in the area. Watford is changing for the better, but the shortage of people willing to foster in the community is still an issue.

For children to engage in this community, particularly those who have come from difficult circumstances in the past, they need stability and safety. By choosing to foster a child in Watford you are providing the best environment possible for the kids to learn and develop, and have the same opportunities as children born into more fortunate positions.
