Fostering Blog | Alice enjoys camping?

Saturday’s Fostering Blog

So we are actually off camping today. After checking the weather forecast we decided that we would leave at 7am. Rain is forecast for lunchtime, so we thought if we planned to get there for 10am, then we would have our tents set up before the rain sets in. When we have such an early start we would usually load the car the night before, however, on Thursday evening a group of the travelling community moved into the park behind our house. When they visit we have to take precautions and be extra vigilant about safety and security. When the same community came in the May half term, unfortunately we saw the crime rates in the area rise significantly in thefts and in violence. We therefore decided it was not wise to leave the car full of all our holiday equipment and so we therefore had to get up this morning at 5:30am in order to get the car packed so we could leave on time.

Charlie realised yesterday when I had finished the packing that we were not in to be able to fit everything in our car – even with the roof rack! Over half of our boot is taken up with Alice’s wheelchair, equipment and medical supplies. This leaves us much less room for our own stuff, and to be honest once the tent is packed in the boot, there really is little room left. So wisely, he called a friend who is also going to the same camp and she will meet at our house at 7am so that we can put some things in her car to travel down.

We definitely made the right decision to go so early. We arrived at 10am as planned, put the tents up by 11.30am, and sure enough at noon the rain came.

Many of the people attending had not had the same fortune as us and it was a shame to see so many people struggling against the weather to put up their tents. Now we are hoping for better weather for the rest of the week. We are also hoping that Alice will really enjoy the camp and there wont be too many dramas!!
